Figure 5-1. Creating a new VoiceXML application project You have a couple of options when writing VoiceXML in Visual Studio. You can write VoiceXML on an .aspx page or on a .vxml page. Using an .aspx page allows you to control server-side events and dynamically create VoiceXML code via the code-behind page using either C# or Visual Basic .NET. If you do not need to control any server-side events, you can create a static .vxml page. For either approach, you should enable the VoiceXML IntelliSense. To do this, from your .aspx or .vxml page, select VoiceXML 2.0 from the Target Schema for Validation drop-down list in the Visual Studio toolbar, as shown in Figure 5-2. After creating your new project, you are ready to start coding your application. First up is specifying prompts and grammar, which you learned how to build in s 2 and 3.

$ sudo yum install ddd To run DDD for remote debugging, you need to start it from the command line with the name of the debugger to use, because picking DDD from the menu results in it running using the system s debugger: $ ddd debugger <cross-compiler>-gdb The DDD welcome screen appears, along with the tip of the day dialog. You re responsible for getting the code to the target machine before you start a debugging session. The next step is to open the binary file you want to debug, by selecting File Open Program. After the program load, use the same steps you used earlier to connect to a remote machine to now start a debugging session. After making the connection, use the tools in the GUI to set breakpoints and watch variables (see Figure 10-1). DDD has the ability to track the value of variables over time and plot them in a graph; this is handy when you re debugging a timing-sensitive program and single stepping would interfere with the program s operation, or when you re tracking infamous Heisenbugs. 3

Wilber appears in the middle of the image, which probably isn t where you want him. In my Chaco image, I want Wilber s head to appear in the window. To move a layer, click on the Move tool in the Toolbox window (Figure 1-9).

One note about DDD: it produces quite a bit of output on stderr, which is visible on the console used to run the program. This output isn t anything to be alarmed about and can be safely ignored. To get rid of this output, you can redirect stdout and stderr to /dev/null by doing the following when running DDD from the command line: $ ddd debugger < cross-compiler >-gdb &> /dev/null

If GIMP opens a dialog about JPEG not handling transparency or layers, or needing to export, just click OK. Figure 1-10 shows the final image.

The Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle says that you can measure the position or velocity of a body but not both, because the measurement of one affects the other. Applied to programming, sometimes the act of debugging alters the operation of the program, usually in such a way that the bug no longer occurs or causes some other, more complex bug.
